Synopsis & Purpose

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Thom Morgan, 18. Aside from developing this website I am a paraplegic. On October 3, 2009, my life was dramatically altered by a near fatal injury, where my spinal cord was severed at the Thoracic-7 level, leaving me paralyzed from the rib cage down. In essence, I could not mentally move my legs, nor could I feel sensation of any kind. One can imagine that I was quite unstable after becoming familiar with my situation, and I had plenty of adjusting to do.

Looking back on my experience, I am thankful that I still have full functionality of my arms and my brain; thus, I can still be successful. And that is the sole purpose of my website: I wish to make it widely known that impairments and disabilities can be overcome, with the right attitude, and support from loved ones, eventually leading to an independent and successful life.

During the first couple months after my injury, I had to make quite a number of changes in my life to accomodate my "new" body (to this day still have more to make). The transition was devastating. I had plenty of trouble keeping track of everything and finding answers. As much as my doctors were able to answer many questions still remained; more personal and more individual issues like spasticity and neurological pain. I had persisting issues that the doctors did not have answers to immediately, and in the meantime, I am experiencing multiple urinary tract infections, and burning pain in my legs (which was the result of discontinuities in the break of my spinal cord).

I had much trouble finding the answers to these questions, despite my persistent searches online. Therefore, I felt compelled to design a "forum" myself where people with similiar issues can quickly find answers and/or give each other advice. MySpinalCord is to act as a medium for not only the spinal cord injured, but also people with chronic spinal cord impairments like Spina Bifida, but also people interested in careers involving paralysis, and even, also those who simply have a relation affected by paralysis.

Please, actively try to make this website name known and tell people about this cause. "Together, we can regenerate the entire nervous system, one synapse a time."

Sincerely,
Thommy Morgan

I also go to High School in Northern Virginia.
